Kalalasaka school children are hungry
A regular donor to KondananiZambia provides for the purchase of nutritionally supplemented corn meal for a mid-day meal at Kalalasaka school.
The school building and feeding program, and the goat re-stocking program, are monitored for KondananiZambia by ZOCS – Zambian Open Community Schools, directed by Mrs Harriet Miyato.
However, the ZOCS team which makes regular monitoring trips to the village, from Lusaka, has not had sufficient funds – for living allowance & fuel, to make the journey, which takes at least 5 hours each way, with the monitoring team staying overnight in the village.
Funds were transferred, and the monitoring team went in the week of 13th. April, to take the corn meal, monitor the teaching program, the goat program, ahead of the expected visit by Jenny & John Preston in June 2011.
Truck project
ZOCS monitoring team is investigating the possibility of providing a 5 ton truck for the use of the Kalalasaka community. With the growth of income generation projects such as woodworking, and handcrafts, a truck would assist in transporting goods, along with corn meal, ground nuts and stock from Kalalasaka to Choma, a distance of approximately 87 kilometres. Transport to Choma is usually by foot or bicycle. The monitoring team is assisting the Community School committee to design an appropriate model of management for such a community Vehicle.
